Another day in Shanghai!
Since there actually wasn't that much to see in Shanghai when compared to other cities, we decided to go to a museum. The former residence of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, to be exact. For all who doesn't know who this man is, I'll explain: he was the revolutionary that more or less stood at the base of modern China (I didn't know this either). The museum and his house are located in the old French area of the city. The big houses show that this must have been a pretty well to do area.
Upon entering the museum we were shocked! A wall of cold air caused such a huge difference with the 36 degrees outside, that we needed a couple of minutes to get used to the temperature.
The museum was very well organised, so we spent the biggest part of the morning inside. After leaving the museum we passed through a park where it was literally forbidden "to urinate and s***" ...
Next on our schedule was the propaganda poster museum. In size and entry price I found this to be a bit of a disappointment, although it was a very interesting and informative visit. After these visits I realised how little I actually know of the history of China, and decided to do some reading up on this subject when I get home from my trip.
Xintandi was next. As one of the older areas of Shanghai is was nearly destoyed to make place for new building projects. Luckily someone found this a waste and made sure a part fo this area was fully restored. Nowadays it is a very well to do area where lots of very expensive shops and restaurants can be found. We visited a house of which the interior was restored to resemble a typical lay-out of the time. I seemed to me a very nice place to live.
After returning to the Bund for a well-deserved cocktail on the roof of the old radio-tower (see added picture) we went to "Bar Rouge" a hip bar on the top floor of one of the big buildings of the Bund.
After this we were already tired from all the walking and visiting we did during the day, so we postponed the promised exploration of the night-life to the next day.
