After Suzhou we took a bus in the early morning to head for the final destination of our China tour: Shanghai. Altough the distance between the two cities is not very big, it nevertherless takes some two hours to get there. One thing to notie during the trip is that the humidity rises importantly and the smog becomes pretty impressive.
Upon arrival in Shanghai the hotel appears to be situated just some 150 meters from one of the main shopping streets in Shanghai.
After a quick shower we set out for lunch and a quick walking tour through the city to the Bund-area. This is the area where still lots of old art-deco style houses can be found, and where most countries had their bank buildings etc. The Pudong area, with lots of impressive buildings (including the famous tv-tower) is situated just across the river, so the view is quite nice from the Bund area.
After lots of picture taking we continue to the Yuyuan bazaar, where people try to sell you everything and everything is probably fake. A lot of scam artists, pretending to be art-school studenst that have an exposition in a nearby hall are wandering around in this area, which makes wandering around this area a lot less fun. Christopher and I decided to go on with Michelle (our tour guide) to the animal and fake antique market. Especially the crickets make for an interesting sales item.
