It was still dark when we set off for Kiama this morning. I feel this prompted Alan to where a coat & pack his seaside clothes in the rucksack. I suggested this was unnecessary, all I was travel with was a towel, as it was already 19degrees & we had a long walk ahead of us. Undeterred he ended up taking two bags.
After catching the train to central we had 7mins to catch our connection to Kiama on platform 3. However platform 3 was not signposted, so after a lucky guess by myself we boarded the gain just as the doors were closing. 2 & a half hours later we arrived in glorious sunshine.
We headed down to surf beach which was producing some impressive waves, but felt Kendells beach just round the corner was better for our relaxing in the sun as it was deserted.
After sunning ourselves & a brief nap for Mr Hansell we had our customary dip into the sea before going up to Friars Cave & seeing the view.
A spot of lunch in Kiama set us up nicely for our walk. First we went to the lighthouse & then saw the Kiama Blowhole. The night before we had decided we would attempt the walk from Kiama to Minnamurra which including the distance we had already walked today came to a total of 14.6 kilometers. Although the Freiburg trip had set me in good stead for walking, doing it in the heat & in flip flops is something quite different. Still at least I was carrying two bags like Alan, this amused me throughout the walk.
The views along the walk were mixed from tremendous, to awful, to someone living room. With the tremendous views of the coast however I can see why this walk is so popular, & certainly made the 7hour round trip on the train worth it.
At the end of our section of the walk, the path stopped & unsure where to go, despite having downloaded a guide via i books, we backtracked. This led to some gentle jogging to ensure that we arrived at the Minnamurra station with moments to spare. The next train would not have been for another hour. Having made the train we set off for the rush hour at Central, before catching our connection with more guesswork to Christine's.
Few glasses of Oyster Bay with dinner rounded off another sunny day in Aus.
