This morning we loaded up the car with our pack lunches & drove the hour & a half to the Blue Mountains.
We stopped for coffee at the town of Leura, before tucking into our pack lunches at the spectacular Echo Point. The point was located next to the three sisters & had great views of the area.
Next we headed to Scenic World which is located further along the cliffs. At the park we travelled down into the valley on the worlds steepest railway. Although a short ride it was incredibly steep with your feat on the backs of the chair of the person in front. The journey would take 3seconds if the train had been allowed to fall with gravity, I would not have liked to experience that.
At the bottom of the valley we took the longest trail, around the former mining area, now covered with euculiptis trees. To get back to the top we took the cable car. This was followed by taking the skytrack over the valley. The skytrack had a glass bottom that allowed for great views of Katoomba falls, & appreciate how high we actually were.
Before heading home we went to do the three sisters walk & get some photos of this famous sight. Christine having done this steep walk before, waited for us at the top. This is where things went slightly wrong. Instead of stopping at the three sisters we headed down another walk. By the time we realised we had gone too far, we were committed to finishing. It turned out we were descending the cliff on a walk known as Giants Staircase. This descent was extremely steep & tricky. Going down I could only think of how difficult it was going coming back up. This was to prove correct, the sign at the bottom advised us the ascent should take 2hours. We realised that Christine would be wondering where we had gone, so we hightailed it up in half an hour just slightly out of breath.
We returned home having seen some spectacular sights.
