Technically speaking our long weekend started on Thursday. I had worked 07:00-14:30 at work to make a mad dash for our 16:35 flight. In the end we were there in enough time to pick up champagne for Becky’s parents & have a drink at the metro bar in the airport, before boarding our CityJet service to Charles De Gaulle. On board we had some very cold wine with our ‘vegetarian’ non de-script sandwich. We played a word game on Becky’s I pad to pass the two hour flight. We saw a cheeky chap nip up and order another drink so we followed suit with a Heineken each.
Keith & Susan we’re waiting for us at the airport and due to almost all Parisians being away at this time of year we were back at theirs in Crespieres in around 35minutes. We did have to dodge a car on the motorway that looked like it was about to go up in its own smoke mind.
A lovely evening was had with champagne & dinner. Followed by one more, then one more then some wine, then one more. Until we realised it was around 02:00am.
Friday began at a nice slow pace and we had coffee and breakfast in the back garden. We decided that today was the best time to head into Paris. Thanks to Keith & Susan’s traffic light tours I was able to see all the major sites of Paris, and be in the car around the Arc de Triumph. At one point near the Louvre we hastily had to shut the sun roof before we drove under a hose watering the flowers. We only got slightly wet.
We stopped off for a carafe of wine overlooking the river. The view from this cafe was almost identical to one I had in Amsterdam. Showing how architecture and road design is similar all over Europe. On the way out of the city we drove almost directly underneath the Eiffel Tower, and then past the little Statue of Liberty.
Back home, Keith prepared a BBQ in the front garden where we sat whiling away the evening with drinks and some card games.
