Today we left the chàtaeu. I had to say good bye to my new friends Sam and Zoe among others. We left with some of mum and dad's friends Josh and Khan from Singapore. We decided to drive with them to Lyon and then onto the 'Provence' region before going to Italy. On the way to Lyon we made a detour for a place called 'Oradour-sur-Glane'. On the 10th of June 1944 a tragedy happened here. 642 victims were the result of a massacre in wartime. 193 of them were children. The site that this event took place on has been preserved to remind people of how bad war is and how horrible people can be. The whole village remains the same as how it was left in 1944. A new village has been built nearby but the old one remains. It is a sad place. We left and drove on to Lyon. Lyon was very nice. It was difficult to drive in the town and there was nowhere to park at all. Mum and Dad had been warned but they took the car in anyway to look for a Hotel. Because we couldn't park we could not get out and ask about hotels. After a long while we turned up a street and saw Josh and Khan walking to their Hotel. They had booked one in advance. Fortunately they had an extra room and the Hotel owner agreed we could share with them. We were very lucky. We celebrated a late dinner at 11.30pm at a seafood restaurant in Lyon. Mum and Dad were relieved we had somewhere to stay. The food was good. The specialty was muscles. Lyon is renowned for its good food.
