Today we went to Grasse to see a perfume factory called Fragonard. We went on a tour around the factory I learnt that in 1926 it became a family business but the name came from a famous painter in the area. They use flowers from all over the world but only local flowers are distilled in the factory. Some scents are sourced from Australia. I have a photo of a map where all the flowers come from. The bottles are made out of aluminium so the perfume lasts longer. Perfume doesn't last as long in glass bottles. They buy plain soap petals and put them in a machine for 1/2 hour and add natural colours and fragrance then they cut it and heat it to avoid air bubbles. Then they press them into egg shapes. I enjoyed the factory tour. It was in English. We spoke to the tour guide - Caroline - afterward. We bought some perfume. The concentration is high and it was cheaper than in the shops because it comes directly from the production line. We drove back to our Hotel on the Coastal road. We went through Cannes it was very busy due to the film festival. Dad was amazed we didn't crash because the roads are so tight and there is not much room at all. It rained later in the afternoon which was a shame because we were planning on going to a beautiful little beach near where we are staying. We went anyway and took some photos on the rain. We also learnt that someone has to smell the fragrances to help with the making prices. They call these people 'Nase's. It translates to 'Nose' there are only 100 of them in the world. It is a talent not a skill. It takes 10 years of study if you have the talent!
