By the time we got to the city it was too late to tour anything. We went straight to the hotel/hostel to drop off our stuff. Our group took up all the rooms in the hostel and when it came down to my roommates and I to get our key they were out of rooms. While everybody else had small hostel rooms my three roommates and I and two other boys got to stay in the hotel. We had 4 beds, our own bathroom and a living room. It was fantastic!
Our night was pretty chill, we just walked around the city for awhile. We did see an otter playing in the river and some love locks on a bridge. This stuff never happens in my real life.
We got up Sunday morning ready to tour. First stop was some ruins outside the city. We watched a movie about them, went to the museum, then toured the ruins for a couple of hours. It was interesting and exhausting. It was one of the most powerful cities in the region back in its' day. That city was built in about four years and was very powerful, but 40 years later it basically didn't even exist and only recently was it rediscovered.
After that long tour we went back into the city and we had a couple of hours before touring the mosque. I went with a few other girls to go get pizza at a cafe. We got to sit outside in the strong sun and tan as we ate pizza. I was very relaxed. I knew I made a good decision to study abroad when I can say I did that in February.
In late afternoon we toured the mosque/cathedral that's a size of a city block. It was huge and just as cold as the cathedral in Granada. Inside, it went from very Arabic to very European real fast. We were looking at some Arabic arches and two steps later we would be in a Christian sanctuary. It was very odd, but absolutely gorgeous, like everything in this country.
After this we got on the bus to head home. By the time we got home my roommate and I were barely awake, but of course our host mom had a huge dinner waiting for us of garlic covered fish. Like everything she makes us, it was delicious.
It was an amazing weekend. I got to see so many amazing things and learn about Spain's history without having to sit through a lecture.
Next weekend is a soccer game in Sevilla, then off to Morocco before my family comes. I really don't have that much time left here and I plan on enjoying it as much as I possibly can.
