So after a few hours on a bus we arrived at our hotel in Hue (pronounced Hhhwhay). We've been quite enjoying the bus journeys as we've been using a good company with nice clean buses and very efficient too. All the buses are sleeper buses which have three rows of beds and two very narrow aisles in between. The beds only seem to be made for very small slim people so it's a bit of a squeeze sometimes. You get a pillow and a blanket and your bed is set at a 45 degree angle (unless you get the seats at the back we've discovered where you can lie completely flat). It's funny as when you're in your bed it feels like everyone is lying in hospital trolleys around you, on a moving bus, bizarre. Everybody has to take their shoes off when they get on and put them in a little bag too.
When we got our first bus to Phu Quoc we took sandwiches on the bus with us as we didn't have time for breakfast. Tom was having a nap so thought i'd eat mine and ended up getting severely told off by the conductor!! Frightened the life out of me! We were sat at the back of the bus and all of a sudden he appeared shouting “Naaaaaaaaaaaawwwww!!” (Vietnamese accent) and waving his hand frantically in front of his face indicating that he was not happy about the smell of my sandwich. It's not like I was eating fish or anything! Everybody looking, great. He said i'd have to get off if I wanted to eat it. Yet we were leaving in about 30 secs for a six hour journey! HUFF! I packed it away and sneakily ate it later. Hilariously he did keep coming back and checking on me before we left. Jeeeeeeeez! So anyway, I guess they don't like you eating on their buses too much!! Apart from the sandwich incident our journeys so far have been pretty good :).
Aaanyway...we arrived at our hotel and what a lovely greeting we had too. Straight away we were made to sit down and were given a glass of fruit juice, some tea and a nice plate of fruit. Oh and a cold flannel to freshen up. All with big smiles and on the house, what a service considering we were paying around £10 a night. We later discovered they did this every time we returned to the hotel. Our room was one of the best we've stayed in. Huge comfy beds scattered with petals on arrival. Very clean room, clean soft sheets, fresh flowers on the table. Just lovely!
Unfortunately the weather whilst we were here was just terrible. It bucketed it down with rain every day. Not just a bit of rain, the kind of rain where you step outside for 2 minutes and you're just completely soaked. Boooo!! On one of the days we decided to go out and find a particular place for lunch. It should have been only 10-15 mins away. We took a left instead of right and bleeeeeeeurgh we were walking forever in the rain until we realised our mistake and had to walk all the way back to our starting point. When we did eventually find it it was annoyingly close by but we were soaked through even with brollies and coats!
One of the main things to see is Hue was The Citadel. This was all mostly outside though as well as other temples and pagodas etc. We waited a day for the rain to stop, then another day and it still carried on. In the end we decided to move on and hope the weather didn't follow us!
