On the 10th January we arrived in the stunning Byron Bay - we had driven 1050km, and decided to stay here for a few nights. We knew we were going out that first night with Andy's friends, Polly and Lindsay, so decided to go for a campsite in town, rather than paying for taxis. However, the cheapest Campsite was $50!! Oh my god - I couldn't believe it! $50 for a rubbish little plot of land! Ridiculous! To make up for it, we spent the next two night sleeping on the side of the road, and sneaking back in to use their facilities! We got our 50 bucks worth!
Byron Bay was really fun. There are about two places you can go out in the evening and both are ridiculously cheesy, but brilliant! I was dancing away and bumped into the lovely Fraser Cohen - random as hell - half way across the world in a silly little bar! That was nice.
Byron in gorgeous, however, when it rains there is not a lot to do, and even less when you are living in a van on the side of the road. I found Byron a bit tricky from this perspective, so was please when we moved onto my Aunty Barbara's in Tallebudgera and had a huge double bed to myself in her huge stunning house. She lives on a horse ranch and has the most beautiful house and stables. I was happy for the next two days and got spoilt. It was good!
We then moved on to a place Andy really wanted to go to called Binna Burra. It's a huge rainforest in a National Park, and is stunning. Although, when we trekked it poured!! We were abused my leeches from all angles and was soaked. We walked for miles, and had to actually hitch a lift back the last few Kilometres cos we were close to passing out! Then had to shower with every bug you can imagine, with the leeches still hanging on!! I was a happy lady to move on from this, but I did really enjoy it!
Our next destination was Surfer's Paradise, and we decided to treat ourselves to a couple of nights in a hostel - we wanted a proper bed, and really were both getting pretty desperate to meet other people. Spending every day and every night with anyone is hard for me after 3 months travelling on my own.
We stayed in a fabulous hostel call 'Sleeping Inn' and went out on the first night (much to my protest) on a School Disco Bar Crawl organised by the hostel. After all my complaining about how it went against everything I believe in and I refused to go, I donned my tie, took my glow-stick and had a bloody brilliant night!! We met loads of wicked people and partied till the early hours! I eat my words! The next few days in Surfer's was fun - a few of us went to SeaWorld and generally just ventured around town. We had another night out, which was just me and all the boys. We turned up at the bar, having a nice few drinks, when suddenly something starts up on the stage. Turns out is was a Surfer's Tropics 18-21year old female swimsuit competition!! Good god these girls had amazing bodies. I lost all the attention of the boys for the next 2 hours. Very funny!
