After Surfer's, we made our way up to the beautiful city of Brisbane. We met up with a friend Alex, and hit the town. We went for a few very funny drinks at a backpackers bar where they placed 80's/90's music videos - brilliant, and then headed for The Valley. I managed to break my shoe, and had to superglue it back together (whilst superglueing my foot to my shoe - which actually helped keep the shoe on) and Andy wasn't allowed in the bar we wanted to go to cos he was wearing hiking boots (he thought he had left his shoes in Surfer's, so had to wear these as the only other thing he had was the jesus sandels. He later found the shoes in the van - good work Pandy!!). Australians make up rules for silly things. I'm not allowed to wear flip-flops to a bar, but they will let me in with scruffy sneakers. And things like - they won't serve an other drink except beer in a pint glass!! WHY??? Why can't a boy wear hiking boots to a bar!
The next day I did what I love the most, and took myself, my camera, my backpack and my map and investigated Brisbane. Turns out Brisbane is a pretty cool place as far as I can see. Its really nicely laid out and is actually just a smaller version of Sydney. And if you go over to the Southbank, you find a whole world of lovely things. There is the lagoon (designed because Brisbane doesn't have a beach), and loads of stunning parks and a pretend random little rainforest. Its a real arty city, and has a great buzz to it. I really enjoyed it, and although its just adding (to my mother's amusement) to the list of places I want to live, I really think its somewhere I would like to spend some time. Also - how fab would it be to live on the Gold Coast - I recon I would have a few visitors living there. Weekends in Byron maybe!!
