Hello!! I am finally getting around to writing the next big stage of my blog. I am currently back in the beautiful Bondi, about to finally leave Australia after 2 months here. The month of East Coast Travels are over and I am weary and poor, but have smile on my face. The van is gone, so I am finally van-less and fancy-free ready for two week in Fiji!! Yes, I am a bloody lucky lady! So, the trip started on the 7th of January - conveniently my birthday. I was feeling sufficiently homesick after a fabulous Christmas, and then a birthday meal on Manly seafront with my fabulous friends, who bought me some ridiculous presents that I had to sit and wear during the entire meal. My other gorgeous friends, who have been putting me up in Bondi for all of New Year, gave me the money for a flight over Fraser Island. It was wicked, but sadly didn't manage to completely stop the homesickness! We collected the van from the absolute dead-end of nowhere (bless young Andy - he did search for the great deals, but wonders why these companies are cheaper! People were literally asking us if we were lost cos they couldn't work out why backpackers would be in the town!)
We decided to just hit the road today, and ended up in a place called 'Hawk's Nest', and staying on a 'primitive' campsite - yeah - they weren't joking when they said primitive. We did manage to turn up late enough that we got away without paying. We did however turn up late enough that it was pitch black and we had to cook dinner. We got chuckled at a lot by all the experienced campers (who literally have homes made of tents!!), as we attempted to cook sausages and potatoes and then eat it whilst be attacked by every kind of bug under the sun, cos the only light we had was ultra-violet! I can safely say that as everyday has gone one, we have become professionals at the camping thing, although is still fail to see it as that much fun! It is however, CHARACTER BUILDING!
We spent the night sweating in the back of the van only to find the window in the morning - how we laughed!! We cracked on driving and spent the next few nights in Port Macquarie, where we discovered a stunning beach called 'Seal Rocks' and a place called Iluka. Iluka was an interesting town - looked a little like people married within their own families - you know!! Hmmmmm
