Han & Dan
PAI- a post written for Boermy and Andy Bell who will appreciate the wonders of Pai.
Dan has been so excited about this place he could hardly keep his hair on!!! Pai is a really tiny village north west of Chiang Mai.
We have been here just under a week and have had the most fun so far. The first night be sat at the smallest bar in the world (literally a cart with plastic stalls outside) and mingled with the locals and other travellers. From here and a few vodka's later we hopped on the back of a scooter to BeBop Bar where there was live music and the drinks were flowing!! When the place finally chucked us out we headed to another joint by the river where we chatted to everyone till the early hours!! The next day was very painful!!
So, enough drinking we decided to hire scooters and have an explore. Not sure if you remember but i'm not too hot on a push bike so the thought of a scooter was a bit pant filling! Decided to have an automatic one to be safer and off we went- the first corner and I took out a bush!! The whole thing of accelerating and braking with one hand is too confusing. So with Dan behind me wetting himself we set off to some hot springs. After a while the steering was ok and we managed to pick up speed- going straight was fine it was just stopping or turning!!
We eventually got to the hot springs and found that they were just pools of smelly 80C water!! So we headed for a waterfall. Kinda got a bit lost but the scenery was amazing and ended up the other side of the village and at another waterfall, but it was cool.
With the bike adventure over I think I will just stick to walking from now on!!
There was also some kind of carnival here over the weekend to celebrate boys becoming monks but we never saw any monks!! The streets were filled with vendours selling everything from tribe hats to spring rolls and there were stands with live bands at every corner. There was even beetle fighting!
So heading to Laos tomorrow, will update soon xx
