This morning we headed to Blue Duck Lodge, i was pretty excited about this place. Unfortunately we were supposed to staying longer than the one night but they had no room so will have to be content with a quick trip. This place is amazing. Its a working farm with the main focus being conservation of the original bush and ofcourse the blue ducks. Appart from the obvious cows, sheep, horses and the cutest fluffy goat they have around 30 working dogs (i pretty much would have taken them all home with me if i could have). A large part of the conservation effort is hunting the wild pigs, goats and stoats that had been introduce a number of years ago that are disrupting the local area, i never realised how visious a wild pig could be. All of what they catch they use.. goat curry anyone? Anyway i realise i am rambling but i have completely fallen for this place it is stunning. For once me and kev agree, he spent the afternoon honing his shot gun skills winning the clay pigeon competion 5 out of 5!
Even though we were sorry to leave we had to set off to Wellington for our last stop in the North Island... well we tried anyway. A couple of km out the road had been blocked by a pretty large fallen tree. Being in the middle of nowhere half the bus decided to take it on themselves, after an awesome team effort (i, ofcoarse was very helpful in taking the pictures) they had managed to break enough of the tree to allow the bus to pass. This set everyones spirits high for the very long journey ahead. On the way we stopped of in the small town of Bulls. The people of this place take their town name very seriously. For example the police station is called Const-a-bulls... of coarse painting your police staion with bulls wearing police uniforms arresting a naughty looking bull is entirely normal, ish. Check out their website for many more terrible puns http://unforgetabull.co.nz/. It was pretty creepy, so we had our subway and made a sharp exit to Wellington with its shops, bars, and restaraunts gallor. After a yummy sushi dinner headed to the hostel bar for our free drink. As these things tend to go one drink turned into many and we were dancing away until the early hours, all for £10 bargin!
