We arrived in Boston on evening of 14th after pretty good flight from Raleigh Durham on JetBlue. Appartment was hard to find, even for seasoned taxi driver, as was tucked away on a road about 5 feet wide in a smart area called Beacon Hill. It's a bit like a more touristy Hampstead, with gas lamps (real!) and lots of shops we have no real interest in buying anything in. After our success with Trolley Bus in Washington we decided to give it another go here as got a real feel for the city from it. Hopped out at Seaport to have a look at Boston Tea Party Museum - actually pretty informative and Noah and I got to throw tea overboard at the scene of the event in 1773. I've always been more of a coffee bloke anyway.
Followed this up with a trip to North End and Little Italy, fascinating area, and with the North End Festival going on pretty busy too. After spotting Paul Revere's house went for excellent meal at Antico Forno before walking back home. Everyone a bit tired, certainly I was too tired to continue my attempt to serenade the budgerigars outside our window with excerpts from The Smiths' back catalogue (there is an acoustic guitar in our appartment) so we just popped out for a look around the Common before settling down to Futurama and a glass of Californian Chardonnay.
The following day was fairly laid back, a trip through Boston Common and a shopping trip to Macy's and various sports shops followed by a trip to Fenway Park for the baseball in the evening. It's a great old ground and was a hot ticket as it was against the New York Yankees. Of course, the fact that A Rod was playing while he appeals against his doping ban made it all the more interesting. The fans certainly weren't keen on him, lots of songs about his steroid use and a great banner that Noah spotted that said 'we play on hope, not dope'. I had done my homework and was expecting to find a plethora of veggie dogs but unfortunately I forgot to write down where the stalls were so we feasted on pretzel rods, pop corn and fries. Taxi back with a very pleasant man from Haiti and then home to continue shouting at most useless television known to mankind. Tomorrow- Cape Cod...
