After a drive towards Greensboro on roads that were much more like what I had originally anticipated before we drove in the US, we dropped Keir off in record time as she was not keen for us to lurk about and cramp her style. Campus looked good, lots of facilities and seemed homely. We didn't get to see the Civil Rights Museum, which was a bit of a disappointment, but am sure Keir can report back on this, but drove straight to our 'Pool House' outside Chapel Hill.
The house was fantastic, opposite a church and seemingly in the middle of a forest, we were told to expect deer, possum, raccoons and, er, snakes, including the poisonous copperhead. Well we saw deer, and heard all sorts of things, especially at night, but no spotting of snakes. Enjoyed our time in the pool, and playing basketball and table tennis and relaxing in the well equipped house - that said Amish Mafia is perhaps the worst programme we have ever seen, closely followed by Tickle, but we watched them anyway. Enjoyed wandering down Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, lots of good restaurants and shops, and also the old tobacco warehouses in Durham. UNC, where Keir is studying, is famous for its basketball - Michael Jordan played for them in the early 1980s for example (he was only third pick in the draft!) and we went to their museum on Campus which have us an insight into how important sport is to UNC, and provided a different example of the ABU phenomenon in the shape of 'Anyone but Duke'.
On the final morning we found two dead frogs in pool, but at least we didn't find a snapping turtle which had previously been found in it and took two people with special equipment to get it out! We dropped car at RDU early afternoon, we have all been impressed with the minivan and if we had about 3 more kids would consider getting one, and caught our flight to Boston for next stage on the grand tour.
