So, a short blog with some unbelievable news.
Last night, after arriving and having a few drinks with Laura, Mike and Nick, a a strange guy approached the youth hostel. He said something about watching a TV company filming the TV Show "Deal or No Deal." We were all a bit dubious at first, but were well up for it, so put our names down.
The night continued, and apart from Mike getting totally hammered and coming to bed at 4.30am, all seemed pretty normal. The plan was to go on the free tour this morning, and probably spend the final bit of our Auckland trip doing a bungee of the bridge or something. But...
At 1pm, as the guy had said, we met downstairs, and quickly realised that the chance to go and watch the show was not just a hoax, but an actual probability. Before we knew it, all 5 of us (and 20 others) were wisked off in a taxi to some weird little secret location. We then spent 6 hours in the studio! Bizarrely, as well as watching a lady win 14grand (she should have won at least 100grand, but stuffed it up after a spectacular start, the best I've ever seen), we also did all the samples (stuff like applauding, screaming "NO DEAL!" and other stuff), which will be edited on to shows later. This means that the 5 of us will feature on over 250 DOND shows in New Zealand, for the next season of the show! As well as this, our images will be sold to countries such as The Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Slovakia, where we will be "live audience members" in those countries too! Aaaah the magic of television...
It was all so bizarre, and we were also promised 35 dollars for the day. If this wasn't enough excitement, we had to contend with Laura's utter ecstacy all day too, as someone who would have actually paid to go and see the show live anyway....
Anyway, seeing as we had 24hours to kill before our early morning flight (later), this was an ideal event for us all today, and was probably one of the most strange experiences of my life.
If anyone sees Deal Or No Deal (hosted by an even stranger man than Noel Edmonds believe it or not) in New Zealand or any of the old "Vakias" in Europe, in the next year, look out for us.... coz we were there BO!
Anyway, this will be my last entry before I get back to the UK, and the journey is sadly over for me now. Good luck to Nick and Laura in Melbourne, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Mike in Thailand and Sharon, who may go anywhere yet. Also, good luck to Faye, in Darwin I think at the moment, and wherever she ends up. Thanks to all the 6 other Samurai for making this trip so amazing, love you all, and see you back in the UK!
NO DEAL, YOU'D BE A f***ING c*** TO DEAL ON THAT!
