we got a stamp going through passport control! which is always very exciting, but did make us an hour later which was another hour not eating. by the time we then arrived in Zagreb it was dark and everything was shut luckily we managed to change money at the post office and then tried to follow the signs for the hostel. it said when you come out of he station take the tram on the right hand side. but both tram stops were directly infront of the station. to make matters worse there was a slovonska stop and a slovenska stop both heading in different directions we ended up goin the wrong way and having to go all the way bac to where we started. after taking the scenic route we arrived in a council estate and were told to follow the yellow footprints on the floor but they must have been painted 10 years ago becasue they were so faded and they were so far between that it was lucky we found where we were going. when we arrived at just after ten we found out check in stopped at 10.30 so we were ucky to have arrived in tme and also that the woman was on th ephone to someone else that had got terribly lost. when we arrived there was a huge sign saying we know were a good hostel if your get lost its your own fault dont complain to us, we want you to try croation drinks so you cant drink your own drinks at the hostel including water, or eat your own food you have to eat from our bbq and thats ike 7 euros each! well we had to eat and we had run out of water so this was ok. when the very lost guy turned up it turned out he was a teacher from london so not a stupid guy thats how bad these directions were that even he got lost! then we went up to our room which was no bigger then dans old room with the ensuite for 6 people!!! all the beds were touhing fully and the bottom bunk had a big barrier so you couldnt just sit on the bed and the top bunk had no barrier so dan coul just roll right off. we were then handed our sheets and told to make our own beds after being tired and starving we were so not impressed, we hadnt paid 15 euro each to make our own beds! we went down to get some food where everyone was socailising and met a couple who lived in kirkstall and the guy taught at harrogate collage, and alo some girls from barnsley but they didnt have an accent. we were all chatting and eating and it was all good and then at 10.30 on the dot we were told we had to go to bed. lights out. it was ridiculous especially to see 30 somethings be told that had to go to bed! we went to bed very grumpy that night! the morning after we met dad and helena in Zagreb and wondered round the town it was like a thanksgiving in croatia so everything was dead and there were a few soldiers marching around but there was nothing really to see apart from lots of museums which we couldnt be bothered with. we sat outside the church (which obviously had scaffolding on) and a camera crew came up to dad and started asking him lots of questions about why he was there and what he was doing and if he like the weather while me and dan just sat in the background looking like idiots. although dad didnt sound to good, he was talking about how he wanted pizza and other sily things like that! we headed to the coast but i slept most of the way in the back of helenas car!
