Our bus journey to Sihanouk Ville was OK but a little uncomfortable! As we approached, the heavens opened and it bucketed it down, but luckily stopped just as we arrived at the bus station. We were not looking forward to finding a hostel in the rain!We shared a tuk tuk (which Graham got down to a bargain price) with another couple and went straight to Monkey Republic, which is highly recommended in Lonely Planet, and managed to get their last bungalow for $8 a night. It has a really lively bar and great food, and we were about 15 years older than most people there! The bar was opened by 4 British guys, so on the menu are some great British favourites.Usually we would avoid food like this when on holiday, but after travelling for so long I was really wanting Heinz Baked Beans and Sausage and Mash, so was very excited to find these there!
On our first day we went to get our Visas for Vietnam and it took all of 10 minutes and $90 for the two of us.We then went to the beaches nearest to us.They are very touristy, but have very cheap drinks (beer for 50 cents and Gin and Tonic for $1!)So we spent a while there!Yesterday we hired a moped and went exploring. We went to Victory beach in the morning, which was fairly quiet and clean, then to Otres beach in the afternoon, which was even quieter and even prettier. We found a great bar called Karma, which was for sale for only $26,000, so we thought about it over a glass of wine, then decided it wasn't maybe such a good idea!
Today we have been on a boat trip.We paid $10 each and got breakfast and a BBQ lunch, and they took us to two islands for snorkelling and one for swimming, relaxing and lunch. It's been a great day, but the snorkelling wasn't so good here. The water was a bit murky and the reef very high up.
As time is pushing on we have decided to head to Vietnam tomorrow, as we want to spend quite some time there. So, we have a 12 hour bus ride to look forward to all day tomorrow, then we need to find somewhere to stay when we arrive in the evening, at Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).Hopefully we shall find somewhere, or else we'll be sleeping at the bus station!
