Arrived Paris yesterday afternoon and it was raining. Queued in a long line to get a cab then the driver could not speak English. Finally got to address of our hotel only to find a SOLD sign on the door and then we panicked as the driver wanted his money so he could go. Saw a nice new hotel beside us and went in and told them we were looking for Hotel Tronchet. The receptionist said " Oh Sir you are in the right place as the hotel was sold and now it has new owners and this is now named Hotel Chavanel. So we are now in a 4 star hotel living it up in luxury. The old hotel was only 3 star! Had a nice train trip from Barcelona to Paris. Today the weather is fine and we walked and saw Madelaine Square, place de la Concorde where the Egyptian obelisk stands, then we walked along the riverside to Alexander 3rd bridge where we crossed and walked down to Eiffel Tower. Then back across the river to Arc de Triomphe and the walked the whole length of Champs élysées . WHEW what a day! We were exhausted after that. Paris is a beautiful city and we look forward to doing a night walk to see the lights. Tomorrow we will either do the Louvre or a hop on hop off bus trip to see the other sights. Cheers from G&J-A. xx
