Bit of a sleep in, waking to light cloud cover that hung around for the day - only about 18 degrees. After brekkie, made our lunch, packed the backpack and headed off on our bikes. Stopped in Thomson Bay Settlement for coffee at Dome before starting our expedition, via Kingstown, stopping at Henrietta Rocks. So picturesque - incredible rock formations, brilliant water colours plus a protruding portion of a ship wreck. Popular diving and snorkelling area as plenty of reef. (Not warm enough for us unfortunately). Similarly, Porpoise Bay, Parker Point, Little Salmon Bay and Salmon Bay were beautiful spots with many braving the cool conditions to snorkel. Spotted various birdlife - mainly cormorants and ospreys...nesting.
Riding was tough at times as Island is quite undulating but well worth the effort. Particularly steep up to Wadjemup Lighthouse...almost in the centre if the island. Beautiful scenery over undulating hills in all directions and great historical significance. Enjoyed careening down the hills through the lakes spotting such sites as the fairy terns nesting. Continued back into Thomson Bay, past the little old historical cemetery, and on to Bathurst Lighthouse overlooking The Basin. A perfect spot for our picnic lunch! Enjoyed an ice cream back at the mall before agreeing we had had enough riding - our butts were starting to scream at us! returned our bikes, checked out Holy Trinity church before catching the shuttle back to Geordie Bay. I did some washing while Raym had a rest, then we strolled along our beach at Longreach Bay. A beautiful spot ! Had time to freshen up and a pre dinner drink before catching the 6pm shuttle back to town for our dinner reservation at Riva restaurant, at The Lodge. Quite pleasant though we feel the massive weekend of Rotofest, the impending WA school holidays next week plus the fact that the start of the week seems to be a non event, all seem to affect quality of services. Perhaps though, all these aspects should be embraced in the hope that this idealic little slice heaven should never change!
