Cuenca is a truely beautiful city. So many amazing old buildings, which I did have piccys of and woulda loved to have shown you but I can´t (I´ll explain that in the Lima section) anyhow we stayed at a very funky cafe/bar/hostel, we got there late and since we didn´t know what else to do we got stonking drunk.. now I don´t want to tell tales out of school but Toby was sick in the sink!!
The next morning was a slow and painful start but eventually we got up and running and went out to enjoy the city, and it´s a stunner, the first place that I have gotten the Í could live here´feeling. The buildings are colourful and full of old character. The people are friendly and we found an ace spot for dinner, live music and fab food!! What more can I say? We took our second night alot easier partly because we were still feeling last nights booze and partly because the next day we were to embark on a 28 hour coach journey to Lima.. uurgh
The journey started fine, then the bus broke down.. so we chilled for an hour or so while they fixed it.. then on our way again. At the Ecuador side of the Peruvian border the bus dumped us to get our exit visa.. then a taxi to the actual border line.. then a different decidedly more dodgy taxi (he had to push it to start it) to the peru immigration for an entry visa, then the same taxi to the bus station (for the next 20 hour ride) the taxi man tried to charge us 30dollar at which point after much arguing I had a what the hell moment and refused to communicate with him or get out of the taxi until he came round to my way of thinking, that 20dollars was a much more reasonable number. It turns out that works!!
We got another coach for approximately 20ish hours and hey presto.. we´re in Lima, capital of Peru!
