The first night at Hervey Bay (27th) we decided to pop to the bar and share a bottle of wine. We then played Wii Bowling with an Oz girl and a German guy, and the winner could win a free bottle of wine! We were well up for it! We started the game and it seemed Graeme was really good (probably from all the practise he's had, the rest of us weren't. But about half way through the game the German guy started getting strikes all the time and he ended up winning. But he kindly offered to share his free bottle of wine with us, and we got chatting to him the rest of the night. It ended up being a bit of a late one!

The next morning we woke early to check in for our Fraser Island tour the following day. We went to office and the woman there had bad news. Apparently one of the 4x4 cars they take out was damaged and wouldn't be fixed in time so she had to cancel the tour. She did though offer to put us on a day trip which we decided to do. It would mean not camping on the island over night but we should still see nearly everything else we were supposed to. We then spent the rest of the day pottering and relaxing, went to the beach for a bit, and a swim in the hostel pool. In the evening Graeme taught me how to play chess which was very stressful, but fun.

The next morning we woke for our tour, and headed over to the 4x4 car for the day and our tour leader Chris. He drove us to the ferry port and we boarded the ferry for Fraser Island. When we arrived on the island the roads were literally just sand, so it was a good job we didn't bring our wagon over! It was a bumpy ride! We first drove through some forest which then turned into rainforest with really tall trees which was cool. We then got to the other side of the island and drove along the 71 mile beach (not the whole way though mind). We drove to a famous shipwreck on the edge of the sea which was impressive. We also saw a lot of jelly fish on the sand near the sea which was a bit gross! We were then given some morning tea, cake and crackers. We then went to Champagne Pools where we had a quick swim.

We then drove onto another beach had the only rocks on the island (the whole island is the biggest sand island in the world). We climbed the rocks to the top and saw views of the ocean and the beaches. We also saw a turtle. We then climbed back down and our lunch was prepared for us, sandwiches with loads of fillings and beer and champagne. The driver then took us onto Eli Creek which was a small river flowing out to the sea with a pool at the end. Had a quick dip there.

We finally then were driven to Lake Mackenzie. The drive to there was interesting it was across the beach (fast and bumpy) and then through the forests up and down sand mounds (fast and bumpy!). we arrived and were given time to have a swim. It was gorgeous clear waters there. Graeme was a little puzzled when me and some other girls on our tour started exfoliating ourselves with the sand there - similar to Whithaven beach the sand is very fine and can make glass, so it is brill for the skin.

We were then driven back to the ferry to return to Hervey Bay. On the drive back we also stopped briefly to look at some kangeroos on the side of the road. We then were dropped at the hostel.
