Took Sach for a bike ride beside the canal again. Some Dutch people came over for a chat.
Set the sat nav for Bern in honour of my son Bernard.
The route took me through the Jura mountains. There was a notice saying French customs but there was just a little locked hut. Only became aware that I was in Switzerland when I saw the different price of petrol.
At first things were not so interesting. There was a massive wood yard with loads of what looked like railway sleepers all stacked up. Then the route took me through a fabulous gorge next to a falling river. However it was suddenly blocked off and I had to go all the way back but it was worth the trip.
I then had to con sat nav to go a different route without bringing me back again.
I managed to do so by heading for over the mountains to Neuchatel. There was a great view of the lake from the top.
It was a struggle getting out of Neuchatel and making sure I didn't go on the express way. Firstly I didn't want to travel on the express way. Secondly I didn't want to buy tickets costing €31 to do so.
Consequently when I was led up a steep hill round some mini roundabouts and my exit was blocked I suddenly found myself going the wrong way round- the English way! It was very embarrassing.
Later, reading a guide book it appears that I missed the place where Absinthe was first made.
There don't seem to be so many campsites in Switzerland and are not well signposted. I had difficulty finding this one which is about 10kms from Bern. Two people I asked only 1km away didn't know it.
It is next to a fast flowing river with the usual handy bike track alongside.
Poor Sach had spent the whole journey nervously panting and when I let her out a young dog started jumping all over her. Then later there was some rifles firing and she was panicking and couldn't find anywhere to hide. She was trying to squeeze under the drivers seat in the van.
Don't know when I can publish this as I couldn't get the wifi in McD's as it only accepts Italian French and German mobile numbers.
It was delightful down by the river this evening with the setting sun and a new moon.
Tomorrow I plan to look around Bern the capital.
