ADVENTURE BEFORE DEMENTIA
Seen on motorhome.
This 2 month trip I am heading for Baden in Switzerland to meet up with LSW hash from Hong Kong again. Then I plan to tour on to Gibraltar to tick that country off on my Most Travelled People list.
From Cornwall I travelled up to Crowthorne (near Reading) and spent the night at my niece's place. Then drove to Folkestone to go through the Eurotunnel. I was very early for the train I was booked on, by the very efficient machine greeted me and informed me that I could take the next train which was leaving in 30 minutes. Just had time to change some money but no time for some phone calls I had promised.
I had planned to spend the night wild camping in a pretty little car park next to a river on the outskirts of Calais that I had used last year. However, now that I was early, I set off in the direction of Switzerland just seeing how far I could get. In the event I reached an ACSI campsite on the outskirts of Namur in Belgium.
Unfortunately it was not particularly good. Not very friendly or helpful. I had trouble finding my pitch. The toilets stank. I had been given a token for the shower but the water cut out when I still had hair conditioner on. The water just stopped with no warning. I had to get dressed and the rinsed my hair in the cold water in a sink which was not entirely successful.
Next day I woke at 7am so took my time as I thought I had plenty. When I set off I realised that I looked at the time on the iPad which did not change automatically as the iPhone did so I was an hour behind.
I set off hoping to meet with the hash in the beer garden in Baden.
Unfortunately going through Luxembourg was one big traffic jam which put me hours behind time. (Cheap diesel though)
Had to stop in Epinal in France in an aires next to river which was empty so Sach had the run of the place.
The drive was pretty but I zoomed on.
Reached the meeting place for the hash in Baden with only 15 minutes to spare.
Parked the van in a car park across from the youth hostel.
The host and hare, Nutcut, drove me half way along the 13 kms trail which I was grateful for as it was so hot.
We ended up in a forest hut which is owned by the village and had a fantastic BBQ and loads of beer.
It was brilliantly organised and great fun.
The next day I wandered around the pretty town before the run or in my case walk. This time Tina came with me and we had a good old chat all the way round. Her dishy 17 old son is off to Milan to model for Prada.
We finished at a popular restaurant where you skewered from an extensive selection of meat and fish. This included horse as well as rabbit and venison. Then the down downs of beer followed by the hash song.
