Feeling tired and jaded I set sat nav for Calais although still 1000kms away. Saw it went via Koblenz so headed for there. Saw a campsite by a river and checked in. The river is called Au.
The campsite was noisy and not well run. My friendly neighbours were a Dutch couple who each had a quad bike, one with a trailer. It seems so cumbersome to me. He was recovering from an operation after - you guessed it- a quad bike accident.
Koblenz, well it was Sunday and parking is free in most places so it was impossible to find a place and it was now dull and drizzling. After going round and round I found a spot to park but as I had no map I didn't really know where I was. Found the train station and obtained a map. It seems that the information offices are tastefully discretely advertised - so you can't find them!
Walked around the pleasant old town in the rain but was not in the mood to take the cable car up to the fort. I had been there before on the early eighties.
On my way out, I did yet another of the unnecessary circuits I had done before!
Drove quite a way alongside the Rhine which was beautiful. Then turned inland and found a swish new spa which was tempting.
I think that on my next visit to The region I shall make a journey visiting all the thermal spas.
Again I drove the minor roads in the direction of Calais. Late afternoon I started looking for somewhere to wild camp but not finding anything suitable and my shoulder was aching again.
Asked sat nav for campsites and found one in the Eifel area. This is a pretty, wooded and hilly nature park. The woman at the campsite talked me into staying for two days which was good as I got my washing done and I had a headache all day yesterday anyway.
There are some pleasant walks and streams for Sach to play in. I don't seem to have much energy for a real hike.
Now leaving for Aachen which looks interesting and then drive across Belgium.
I need to find a vet for Sach to be checked for her passport. It is her birthday tomorrow- she is 6 years old.
