Now in Gebhardsagen where we lived near my grandparents. The house we lived in is shown above. The little road where my grandparents lived is choked full of cars. The forest I uses to play in is just the same and beautiful as ever. The village was extremely quiet as it was whit bank holiday Monday. Everything was closed and possibly because it was raining there were no people in the street.
The village is now under the jurisdiction of the town of Salzgitter which is twinned with Swindon. It still seemed strange seeing a Swindon Strasse.
Overnight, I had stayed in a family run campsite next to a lake. Had a tasty meal of schnitzel, veggies including white asparagus, which is in season, and fried potatoes -and a large glass of wine of course.
The previous night I had a very uncomfortable night mainly because of being choked up with a cold. Also I wasn't happy with the receptionist at the campsite who was very negative about everything. She said that I couldn't used Acsi card as it was now in high season. The next day I was given an apology and a refund from a nice receptionist when I showed her the dates they advertised in the book.
Last night I took an antihistamine tablet and it helped so much that it must be allergy that I am suffering.
One night I made myself a hot water bottle and hadn't put the top on tight. It soaked all the bedding and I don't have spare as I just wash and dry and replace.
I have now driven 3000 miles since home so I was concerned re oil and tyres. Stopped at a vw garage and a nice young lad topped up the oil which was only half a litre and they topped up the water and did the tyres. They just charged me €12 but I gave them 20.
Decided to head for Holland. Didn't make it that day as there are so many jams on the motorways. Rather than sit in motorway traffic I programmed sat nav which took me along tiny tracks through fields and farms. At one pic nic stop I saw a fox ambling along until it saw me. Sacha also had fun hunting in a short barley field. You could only see the barley moving to know where she was.
As I wasn't going to reach my destination tonight I got sat nav to take me to the nearest campsite which turned out to be 5 star which I usually avoid like the plague. But I was stuck with it. Much prefer the simpler rural type of campsites.
