Margarita and Fritz told me about a lovely campsite in Brielle. They were on the way there to stay for a month.
First I explored the diepenhem area. Apparently there are six castles in the area and great to visit on bikes. I visited Warmelo where the Dutch queen once lived. They had a sand sculpture exhibition but I didn't go in as I had Sacha with me. A quick look at a couple of villages and then set of the 180 miles to Brielle which is quite near Rotterdam.
The drive was not pleasant as I had to double back a few times. Twice went through the Benelux tunnel. I think some of the roads are too new for my Sat Nav. Another time I made the mistake and missed the second turning. No problem just take the next exit a few kms on and double back. But as I'm driving along I see the motor way on the return side is closed for repairs. So didn't know where to go in amongst all the fast moving traffic.
Oh and I was really chuffed that my van did 860 miles on on tank of diesel. That is a PB! Was tempted to do more but couldn't risk it on motorways.
When I stopped for fuel I stopped to stretch my legs in Ridderkerke. Firstly it was strange to see a pair of swans with 6 little cygnets in the town.
Then I saw a really smart BMW driven by a toddler! Actually it was electric and his mother was in control. It looked great- lucky kid. I shall post pictures of swans and BMW.
About 10 miles from my destination I changed my sat nav to no motorways. Not a good idea. Empty roads through all huge storage tanks and pipes. Then reached a barrier and waited for a train but actually the road was a bridge which lifted up to let a barge through.
Brielle is a picturesque town and the sun is shining. Yippee.
Found a good supermarket. Just enjoyed some chicken, a crunchy crisp salad and potato salad washed down with some dry German Sekt. Then some mango and pecan nuts. It's a tough life.
