Bangkok
Oh how glad we were when we arrived! After booking a hotel on the phone in Sri Lanka we had an epic bus journey to Banglamphu which is the backpacker's area. We put our stuff down in our tiny room before heading out to explore the nightlife.
After the first ten minutes of walking around we were so happy. There are night markets everywhere selling the loveliest one-off dresses and every other type of clothing you can think of. We were in fashion heaven! The streets were crowded with young people both Thai and people from all walks of life. It seems Banglamphu is the place to be in Bangkok.
The next day we headed to try and sort out our travel plans and book tickets to make our way down the gulf, only to find out that you had to just show up on the day! Oh well! We got caught up in another storm whilst waiting for a bus back to the city which was very interesting! The rain seemed to turn on like a tap and then just continue for hours!
After a long wait under many a shelter we headed back to the city which took ages as the traffic in Bangkok is awful, it literally does not move! Although, unlike India at least people don't drive into the side of you whilst sounding their horn which is much more pleasant!
Last night we went our in Banglamphu, walked around the markets and had cocktails whilst listening to this live band in a local bar. Natalie got chatted up by some random French guy, which I found amusing especially after the proposal incident which she happily caught on camera in Udaipur! He he!
Today we went our separate ways. I jumped on a boat and visited the Grand Palace which was unbelievable! The buildings were beautiful and inside there were Buddhist monks praying, it was so nice to see. Everywhere was so peaceful and the people were incredible friendly, as we have found in most places we have been! The people here are so laid back and seem to be content and enjoying life at their own pace! Afterwards I went to the famous Wat Pho temple which again was stunning and well worth the visit! I have taken far too many photos which you will see later, but none of them seem to do the places justice!
I also visited some jewellery factories and various other temples around the city. It has been a very productive day which is good as we leave Bangkok to travel south tomorrow!
Tonight we are going to hit the town again and enjoy some more live music which should be cool. So far Thailand has been everything we hoped for and more, and we are both really eager to see what the other parts have to offer!
