HerveyBay
After a few disappointing days we decided to head up to HerveyBay and again search for some jobs. We managed to get some free accommodation for a few nights by working for the hostel, serving food for a few hours in the evening, but this didn't last long. As soon as we realized that there were no job vacancies even on the Islands, we thought we may as well use of trips that were already paid for, so we booked the trip we had been looking forward to since day one, Fraser Island, and chilled out for a few days waiting for the big day! The beach at Hervey bay was lovely and the weather was just what you would expect of Australia, sunny and extremely hot. I also got the chance to meet up with Taylor again, the Canadian girl I met in Sydney, which was really nice, we just spent the day at the beach; what a small world!
The day before we went to Fraser we also saw Laura and Dane who were also friends from Sydney. It turned out that they were on the same trip as us which was so strange, but it was so nice to see them again! That afternoon Sarah had been begging to see this shark museum which HerveyBay was famous for, so we all decided to go as a big group! This guy who owned the place was a shark hunter. He has been hunting sharks since the 70's because he thinks they are a threat to the environment, killing dolphins and turtles as well as humans. We got there not knowing what to expect, walked into a dark room which had a huge 3 ton great white shark hanging dead in a freezer. It was so freaky! I have never seen anything like it! I daren't walk in the room again it was so scary! I could not get over how big it was! It was so cool, but they guy is clearly a psycho! The rest of the museum was decorated with newspaper headlines and clippings from this shark hunter's conquests and evidence of shark attacks. We also saw a model of a great white shark's jaw which was literally the size of me!
What a weird day that was!
