Hooray. Guy has got a new password and we are online again at last. I did get to a phone shop yesterday in Santa Rosa our nearest big town but Donna had to sign for me as A-T something or other the local US carrier wouldn't accept international credit cards!!! I got the same story in New York which was why I was looking for T Mobile. Yes you've guessed it. No t mobile stores in sight in this part of California. Don't care now.
Occidental is a lovely spot but situated in quite a deep Valley so no G4 & poor mobile phone signals. We are surrounded by redwood trees that are busy shedding their nutty type fir cones so sitting out on the deck outside the house is quite a hazardous business. It is so quiet here or so you think until the squirrels start their funny burping noise, the blue jays start their racket and so on. The weather is fine if a little chilly especially overnight. Lovely to see and feel the sun again after the dreadful summer in England this year.
After the rigours of sight seeing in New York we are just chilling re charging our batteries before the big adventure next week when we shoot off to the Grand Canyon and beyond.
Friday Evening we went down to the farmers market in the village - rather bohemian with whole food etc. After a couple of beers in the local bar we bought a very good curry from Guy's next door neighbour a lady from Mumbai who cooks and sells food at markets such as these - really nice food and somewhat unexpected here in the depths of California. After sitting out on Guy's deck with some wine it started to get quite cold so we came into our little house and lit the wood burner. Thought it was about midnight as we both felt tired then looked at the clock and it was just short of 10.00pm! So we retired early - nothing like fresh air, good food and liquid nourishment to help you sleep.
