Busy weekend with friends calling to see us. Saturday it was supposed to be Rick & Dee unfortunately Rick was sick so only Dee could come. It was great to see her and catch up on things. She has worked for the local Vets for many years and also rescues needy horses. It was good to talk horse for a bit.
We had steak and when I say steak I mean STEAK. They were called New York strip steaks and must have weighed near on a Pound each! Yum!
After Dee left at around 6.00pm to go and feed her animals we sat on Guy's deck drinking wine and looking at the stars. We could get quite used to this way of life.
On Sunday it was Chris & Lese who came to visit, we have met them before and it was really good to see them again. Donna made an incredibly good quiche for lunch and we all over ate again. Lese, apart from being friends with Donna & Guy, is Donna's gym partner & they help to keep each other in shape. Lese is from England and goes back to to visit her parents most years so she knows what a bummer of a summer we had this year. Chris has spent time in the UK, Africa and the States and runs a successful civil engineering business.
Guy & Donna watched their favourite team playing American football. We have tried to understand what is going on but it seems to us that it is just an excuse for a big punch up.
Gill and I went for a walk after the guests had gone down a narrow lane that led to a CYO (Christian youth organisation) encampment. Nestling some 60ft down in a deep cleft in the land and surrounded by trees this was a quite dark and gloomy place where the sun rarely breaks through - cool in high summer but dull the rest of the time.
Peter decided it was time for ice-cream so we hightailed it back to the Union hotel and had the biggest Mud Pie ice-cream you've ever seen!
On the way back home we bumped into Guy & Donna on the way to the Union Bar and being lemmings could not resist joining them.
We are really enjoying the weather here as it is sunny every day but quite cool at night and we both light our wood stoves every morning, very cosy.
