After 2000kms and five days we have successfully driven from Paris to Rome.
We were so happy to hand over our loyal car to the Avis depot at Rome airport.
It was a great trip and we wouldn't have been able to get to some of the places we visited without a car.
San Gimignano one of my favorite places so far.
We are now in Rome our transfer from the airport comfortable and our driver spoke some English and provided us with local knowledge on the tourist sights of Rome.
He locates our accommodation after driving down what one would call a oneway walk way with hundreds of people, restaurants and shops. A small door with B&B Trevi on the top leads us to a stair case and into a small reception were we a greeted by Valantina.
After checking in to our room small but modern with a lovely big shower for the next three nights we head out to get our bearings.
First stop the Trevi fountain 100 metres from our hotel but disappointing, as the fountain is under repair and maintenance no water and just a walk way bridge to see what is the fountain. However before leaving home we knew this so not a total surprise but still a disappointment.
Next stop the Spanish Steps remembering these from the famous movie 'roman holiday' we are not disappointed.
We head back so our accommodation for dinner a restaurant underneath the hotel is owned by the hotel family also and we sit down to pizza and beer.
We finish off our first day in Rome with gelato and watch the crowds wonder by.
Tomorrow we will get on the hop on hop off bus and take in more sights of Rome.
Buonanotte.......
