Wow, the Galapagos. Our 4 days on the boat Daphne was fantastic. This is suppose to be a first class boat and we certainly have no complaints. We were very well looked after on the boat with great food and real good service. A group of 16 people in total, a mix of nationalities, English, Aussy, French, Italian, Norwegian, Swiss and Belgian. Very lucky for us the 2 Norwegian guys were Biologists, specialising in seabirds so made fab guides for us and their enthusiasm was contagious. We only visited the northern islands of the Galapagos 4 in total. Our days were spent either walking onland spotting birds or snorkelling spotting a whole other world under the water. The nature here is amazing and the animals seriously are fearless. To list a few of the things we saw- Giant Turtles (onland and underwater), 3 types of Boobies (the blue footie being our favourite), Friggate birds, hummingbirds, finchs, herrons, pelicans, penguins (again onland and under water), crabs, iganas, sharks, eels, starfish, parrotfish, tuna and lots of friendly Seals and sealions.
The trip was worth every cent and I am glad to have experienced this now, as 5 years time who knows what changes tourists and human intervention will make. As of January we have been warned the entrance fee to the islands will be trippling to $300, so an already expensive trip will become out of reach for alot more backpackers.
