Well after a comfortable flight into Sanitago, we arrived before we even set off, making it the longest day possible at about 40hours +.... But no jetlag thankfully!!
We had no problems booking into a budget backpackers from the airport and catching a shuttle bus for $10, so impressed our lack of planning paid off and things straight away seemed relatively cheap. we met 2 lovely girls on our flight that we hung out with for all our time in Chile. We wondered the streets of Santiago, taking in all the sites whilst being wolf whistled at and blown kisses from every direction.. Rather a culture shock being back in a big busy poluted city after so much time in tranquil NZ. Still we soon managed to find a bottle of Sav and spend the night swapping travel stories in the backpackers!
Tuesday took us on a bus trip about 2hours out of Santiago to the port/harbour town of Valparaiso, which is a sweet town, with the buildings made mostly out of corrogated iron. And is famous for its almost virtical elevtors. This really gave us the feeling of being in South America with its multi colours and artists on every corner. However one thing that has disturbed us is the amount of stray dogs!
Back to Santiago we again enjoyed the Chilean wine and looked forward to an early start for a long bus trip over the border to Argentina... So yep, 2 days and we are moving on to the next country already!!!!
Back to life on the road, early starts, long bus trips, cold showers, travel towels and having to keep a stash of toilet roll on us everywhere we go. poor sanitation and bottled water. But hell no complaints who needs luxuries..???
