I guess you can´t have all the happiness without something sad...
So we went to see Chaiten. The city that was destroyed 3 years ago by a volcanic eruption.
The city is almost uncovered now, but they left a street covered as a memory of the disaster. There are some people living there, but it´s much smaller than it used to be.
As you can see in the photos - entire houses are covered by volcanic ashes. You can actually climb up on the roof just like that.
The inside of the houses is covered with ash and mostly destroyed. However - you can see children rooms with toys, living rooms and kitchens with appliances. The citizens took what they can and just ran away. I don´t know how many people died, but it doesn´t look well :(
It was really interesting to see it, but a very sad sight indeed.
This was the end of the Carretera. Oswaldo the driver dropped us off at El Bolson - our next adventure!
