It's been a bit funny getting up in the morning, one of us would get up go outside and come back saying it's still dark it must be early, go back to bed. Then we'd end up getting up a couple of hours later to bright sunshine and be surprised at how late it was. As we're in manyana Ville I must confess I haven't seen a clock with the right time on it anywhere. Most places seem to be happy with them being either 6 hours forward or back. Anyways, today we headed on down to the little port to see about getting out on a boat for a couple of hours. It was sunny but the wind was up and you could see that the Atlantic was a bit rougher than it had been a couple of days before. It was hard to see how rough it was from the apartment but became a bit more evident once we got to the harbour. First was breakfast on the harbour front and very nice it was too. Then we had a wander around. It looked like a lot of the people who crewed the boats weren't heading out today. The harbour walls are about 20 foot high and you could see some waves breaking over at certain parts. We noticed one boat that looked to be heading out and had a chat to the lady who was selling the charter tickets. She told us that this would probably be the only boat going out today, the bigger sailing ships weren't heading out and it was unlikely that this one would be going out again later in the day. She also told us that it going to be pretty rough. Jayne isn't the greatest fan of sea travel, but she agreed to jump aboard. The boat was about 40 foot long with an upper and lower deck, we chose the upper deck. Once we got out of the harbour you could see the condition of the sea.
Jayne wasn't too happy and was hoping we'd turn back straight away. I told her it would be fine. I don't think it was that bad, the thing that made it look worse were the swells. It's the Atlantic so when it gets churned up you'll know about it. The swells were between 10 to 15 foot and when we headed into the wind you knew about it. I'd say there was a force 6 blowing, so you did get a bit of spray heading your way. The crew seemed alert enough. The pics make it look calm but it wasn't. We headed out for a couple of miles, apparently we were looking for Whales, I think they were a bit further out but the Captain didn't want to head out that far. Jayne had her gaze on land and wouldn't look the other direction. Once we'd turned round with the wind behind us the voyage became a bit more comfortable. The boat would surf the swell and that was fun. Eventually we came across a pod of Dolphins. Bottlenose variety (the same ones we get back in West Wales) we saw about 18 of them and they hung around for a bit but became bored with the boat tailing them. Coming back into port was fun, the captain had to time it right. The swells at the harbour entrance were pretty big now and he had to avoid doing the Hawaii 5-0 Surfing we'd done earlier on. He had to let the swell pass and get in before the wave came back at us. I enjoyed that although I don't think Jayne was too happy about it.

nerys Lovely. I think I’ve read them all at once. We’re on the road ourselves. Melbourne at the moment. All good. xxxN
Ma Gibbs You look quite happy and you’re not pulling a face! Poor Jayne, though, she should have stayed on dry land. luv Ma XXXX
