It's Saturday night and so off we head to town - The Three Monkeys in the back streets is our choice of venue to warm the old livers up. The Superbock does the trick and then thoughts turn to fodder - Stevo recommends a Nepalese gaff that does superb Momo Dumplings - so we have a wander around and we actually get the lay of the land, there's loads of alleys and side streets with bigger squares not unsuprisingly like Macau back in the day prior to the 1999 handover. It's pretty lively out there and a lot of the poncey places seem to be thriving - we head up another back street and find the Nepalese place - it's bang on - not at all poncey and down to earth and we get served by a nice lady from Kathmandu who's only been here for two months - so she's friendly and not tourist jaded - Vino Verdi - Momo's, Chicken & Chow Mein are the scran we order (It was a mixed asian diner) and was supoib - it also turned out to be super cheap - I'll find out the name and add it here at a later date. After this we have another wander - Up next is Eddie's which looks busy, we have no interest in going inside and choose the pavement option. Once there with pints of Sangres on board, a nice Dutch lady accosts us - I thought she had a bit of a Chicago Accent and it turns out she visits frequently as she works in the Agricultural Commodities department of Rabobank - she's with her Boyfriend Tom who is from Stockport (but surprisingly not a City Fan, but prefers the Reds) Her name is Jennifer and is very well dressed, once she finds out where we're from she reels off the "Stupidity of Brexit" hymn sheet - I yawn and tell her I havent read a newspaper or watched any news for the last 10 years so am not really in a position to counter any of her arguments and she sort of gets it that I dont care if the UK burns. Tom is pretty cool as he just laughs and lets her get on with it. They live in Amsterdam and intially met in Bali - Stevo manages to goad her a bit and she then tells us of their priviliged lifestyle in Amsterdam - "We live in a bubble" she says. Tom is a Plumber and her a top banker - so there's chalk and cheese. She goes down the socialist route of how terrible the world is and how everyone should be equal - They're actually a good laugh but the politico conversation from her gets a bit tedious - so we leave. I said to Stevo, did you see the clothes she was wearing? Yes, Louis Viton and Stevo says they were from the new range called "Hypocrisy".
We head back nearer to home and once more sit at the bar in Bar O Artisa which is quite a comfortable place - There's a fat brummie Bloke sitting next to us who Stevo has chatted to previously, apparently he was big in the music scene and had done a stint with Black Sabbath once upon a time - so I christen him Metal Mickey - He's too busy chatting up a busty lady to bother talking to us - and within 5 minutes it looks like he's pulled so he's paid his bill and vamooshes with Busty Lady in tow. We then talk to an orange bloke with a Billy Idol hairdo - who turns out to be Austrian and is over here golfing - he was a bit of fun though and we sink a few more - all is well until the peace is shattered by Karaoke Night - Leicester's finest out of tune singers hit the stage and it's time to take refuge in McCabe's Irish Bar next door. Derek is the owner and Stevo had spent quite a bit of time with him during the latter part of the Medical Emergency in 2022 when there was a distinct lack of booze punters in Lagos - Stevo says it's a bit odd but Derek doesnt seem to be the Chatty Landlord he once was - He's friendly enough to me though and we have a bit of a chat. Guess he can choose to be aloof now the Guiness Guzzlers are back in town. It's a great bar though and would recommend it.
The Evening is ended with Brandy for me and Jameson whisky for Grant and Stevo - Was a pretty good night and tomorrow will be mine and Stevo's last day - Grant will be hitting the rails to Lisbon and Porto on Monday and will spend another week doing a solo mission. Hasnt been a bad Saturday night out.
