Sunday in Kuala Lumpur and the place is up early. We found a place in the Central Train Station that does very good food, very cheaply, so it's a rice and curry brunch for us. we then decided to get on the LRT and go exploring, we ended up in the business district which as to be expected was quiet. A quick chat with the ticket guys and they tell us to jump on the Metro to Bukit Pinang or locally known as the Golden Triangle, it's the shopping district adjacent to little India..we had a wander and as usual they had everything for sale except anything that we would want. We ended up in the higher end market malls which are even more boring....we went to move on but then got trapped by one of those fantastic monsoon lightning storms that you only get in Asia...It hammered it down and the lightning was right above followed by ground trembling thunder. We watched the traffic sailing through the floods and it was fun for a while.
Eventually we got bored and opted for a taxi. We'd cheered up a bit as we had good news, we'd got the forex rate wrong and what had appeared expensive was now much cheaper. Our taxi driver was Mr. Vijay, a very nice guy, he was interested in Grant's education and told of his children, his daughter is on her way to becoming a Neuro Scientist and is in the US. Mr. Vijay was of Indian heritage and I asked which part of India his ancestors had come from, he said Madras...which was nice to hear...he hadnt been back there for a couple of years and so I broke the bad news that we had recently paid the old surprise visit. He confirmed what we said and he too felt sorry at what had beocme to the once lovely Madras. We got out of the taxi and shook hands with Mr. Vijay. 20 entertaining minutes of good conversation in dreadful weather for the equivalent of 1 pound & 80 shiny new pence. As we walked through the market there was a big kerfuffle going on, some down and out old boy had somehow managed to offend a shopkeeper and the fur had flown. Security was soon on the case. I actually felt sorry for the unfortunate. Let's hope at least he's having a good meal tonight out of the rain.
Later, we headed back to our eatery. Tom Yum soup with a bowl of rice for 1 pound and 40 shiny new pence. that would cost you a tenner in some posh Thai Restaurant. We like Kuala Lumpur.

Gareth Gibbs It’s refreshing to hear that some sort of normality is occurring to your lives and that people if treated decently are themselves treating you decently. Here endeth the lesson. Love. Pa.
BIg Steve When I lived in Asia, I always thought the Golden Triangle was Drug producing countries, in HK it was typically somebody getting the name of the Golden shopping centre wrong. Two very different things..
Charlie - Hong Kong Don’t forget the Chatukchak Market when you get to Bangkok. You can buy everything from an elephant to an AK47. Happy travels! (I’ve got lunch with Michael Palin on Wednesday, I’ll give him your best and tell him you’ll have a few pointers for him for his next trip!)
