The problem with the train was electrical, the lights had all gone off and the air conditioning. The main lights at the front of the train had also gone off. Maybe the electricity had blown due to everyone trying to open and shut those damn electric doors that werent working. As it was now dark, we were parked up at a small station. As I'd said the ride up was magic, we'd never seen anything like it really. There werer some amazing valleys and you could see the true extent of the jungle. The earth was copper red and also with these violent rain storms coming in, the colours were made more vivid. This is very arable land and you'd never stop the jungle from growing here. We spoke to some of the young train crew and a jolly lot they were as well. After the conservative nature of Singapore it was nice to be in the company of people who liked a joke and also werent going to pay any attention to the rules of dont do this stickers on the doors and walls of the train. Opening the carriage doors carried a fine of 10,000 ringitt. The door was constantly being opened. Smoking would cost you a fine of 30,000 ringitt, that didnt stop them. In fairness , they didnt smoke in the carriage, they would do it by the open doors and even try to close the broken electric door so as not of offend anyone.
Eventually we moved at a snail's pace until we got to another station, here we leapt into the 21st Century. We were told to grab our stuff and move onto another train and there was sa big difference. We'd been put on a brand new metro train. It was Star Wars White and hurtled along. We were meant to be getting into Central KL at 10pm, but due to the delays we were running late, this metro train was going to make up some time. Personally I would have liked to have chugged into town on the old train, but at least we got there.
We got into Kuala Lumpur around 10.30pm , the central station is modern and there was no bad vibe about this place. Try finding that kind of friendly atmosphere at this time of night in any central European train station. We managed to find a place with wifi as we hadnt booked a room. Mrs. Gibbs back at moonbase Alpha had taken care of things and soon we picked up the email with the details for the hotel. What we saw of the city on that brief taxi ride we liked. Kuala Lumpur is an interesting city with some wonderful architecture. We like Kuala Lumpur
