Our last night in Florence and we decided to take an evening walk around the old town. It was much better by night, most of the tourists had left and all the major buildings were lit up, highlighting the shadows and contours of these magnificent buildings. Being the cultural Ambassadors from Wales, we opt for kebab & chips to finish the evening.
Up early, breakfast, shower and the hassle of packing up again....then check to see if we've left anyrthing behind. Lug the gear down the fantastic stone staircase and drop the keys off. We've checked out and now it's a very short stroll over to the Central railway Station. We picked up the tickets yesterday and we've chosen the 11.19am train, so we hang around a bit. The weather is glorious today, bright sunshine and 24 Deg. C.
We're on another Eurostar train, this one's heading to Rome and we've got to get off to make another connection. The train pulls out and we get to see the glorious hilly countryside of Tuscany......but all too briefly we're constantly in and out of very long tunnels. Its very mountainous here and it's the only way a train 's going to get through.
Somehow there's been a delay and we're running 10 minutes late....surprising really, considering we've been going over a 150 miles per hour. I wonder what mussolini would have thought of this tardiness?
It's not all bad news, the train manages to make 5 minutes and we get into Roma Termini with a few minutes to spare ....we leg it down to the station to look at the departure boards...we've got a few minutes ....and run for the Naples train...we make it.....Just.
In an hour's time, we'll be in Naples, from there we've got to find the ferry port if we're going to make the last ferry to the island of Ischia.
