Gibbs Locates
Despite the boozines of our liquid lunch yesterday, we'd managed to have an early night and so it was an early start. 7.30am.showered, then breakfast. We pack the bags and do the usual lugging of the gear down the stairs. We thank the family for their great hospitality and check out. It's fun lugging the gear down the 200 steps down to the port. We are however for once on time and sort out the tickets for the hydrofoil. It's an uneventful crossing. We were right to have taken that ferry the other afternoon as it's cloudy. Naples is visible but Vesuvius is covered , how lucky were we to see it in it's full glory the other day?
We depart the hydrofoil and head across to the bus stop. We watch the mental traffic and decide that Naples is still the mad house it was a couple of days ago. it's nice to see lots of the new Triumph Bonnevilles doing battle with Ducati's and Moto Guzzi's on the mad roads of Napoli. We even spot a 1960's BSA starfire doing the rounds like an ancient gladiator.
We get on the bus and head into town, I make sure Grant has a burger to make up for the lack of breakfasts on Ischia. We then head to the station to get the 2.5 hour bus trip to Bari. The station has been moved and it's a 10 minute walk to find it. I'm pleased to announce that it's as grim anything the UK could come up with. We deal with Shirley & Burly in the ticket office who are more concerned with finding an ashtray, than they are about serving us. We're well ahead of time, we've got a 45 minute wait for the bus.
It's the usual bun fight getting on the bus but at last we're off. It takes 25 minutes to get out of Terminal Boredom. It's the same chaos in town but finally we get onto the highways. Vesuvius makes an appearance to the right. She's still magnificent. There'shigh mountains then low ones and eventually back to the agricultural flatlands, we see Pescara on the left and Bari on the right. We get off by the railway station and a guy tells us to go to the bus station to get to Bari Port. I get the tickets and the guy says get on 20/..we've got 2 hours to go before the ferry departs, what could possibly go wrong? We get on the number 20 bus, not the 20/ bus. We then get taken on a 1.5 hours bus ride showing the joys of Bari. There are none and we end up back in the same place. We've now got 30 minutes to get to the ferry. We jump on the 20/ bus and run to ferry. We have 7 minutes to spare.
