Getting lost while exploring
Had a bit of a sleep in this morning and didn't make it out for breakfast until 11ish. Had breakfast at a pub called Capitol City Brewing Company.
We were walking towards the museums and galleries when we noticed a parade for St Paddy's Day so thought we would check it out, there was nothing Irish about it. The most Irish thing I saw was a dude in the crowd. But I think we missed all the Irish stuff which might've been at the start of the parade. Nevertheless, it was entertaining. Then we stumbled across Police on Harley's giving people rides, missed out on getting one but enjoyed watching.
Visited the National Gallery of Art. There was a really good posthumous photo exhibition on Garry Winogrand which we spent a lot of time viewing. My favourite painting was Lavender Mist by Jackson Pollock. Could've spent hours staring at it.
We also visited the National Museum of American History which was awesome. There was a great exhibition about the March on Washington which was really informative. We could've spent an entire day there and didn't get to see everything. Both the Gallery and Museum were free entry.
Returned to Jaleo for dinner which was even better than the Mexican tapas the previous night. Dinner was fantastic and dessert was delicious! My only complaint was that the waitress was looking after too many tables and it took too long to get her attention to order another beer. Was one of the most expensive meals we have had but was worth it as a treat.
It had started snowing while we were at dinner and I was pretty vocal about my excitement, which Sam found really embarrassing. As I had never been in a city with snow before, we decided to walk the 3kms home. It was great apart from snowflakes continually blowing into my eyes.
Got back to the hostel and got stuck listening to the man on duty's life story for close to an hour. Sam asked him about the commotion the previous night. He explained that a former employee, that had been fired for stealing was still staying at the hostel and was caught stealing money from reception. He said that he forced him against a wall, head-butted him and taught him a lesson. Lost even more confidence in the hostel knowing that a known thief was staying in the hostel and had been storing all his belongings in our hallway room. Was stoked that we only had one more night in the Hostel hallway and excited to head to Miami.
Was freezing so asked for extra blankets, layered the clothes on and jumped up to the top bunk to sleep with Sam to keep warm.
