Getting lost while exploring
Had a pretty decent sleep considering the sleeping arrangements. Woke up without the alarm and headed out for a day exploring. Took a lot of photos!
My favourite building is the Capitol building. This part of the city is a total contrast to the suburb we are staying in. It's clean and full of tourists, this is the area they want you to see.
The White House is an experience and I overhear a man telling his kids, "This is the White House, well it's the White black House now". My jaw dropped, it's another world here. We have noticed a lot of segregation.
After seeing all the war memorials and buildings we visit the Air & Space Museum. It's free entry and was cool to have a look around for about an hour. We had been walking and on our feet for about 5 or 6 hours at this point so we head back for dinner.
Try to get a table at Jaleo which is a Spanish tapas restaurant that Hillary recommended. It's full at 6pm with an estimated wait time of at least an hour. We are starving so make a reservation for Sunday night and ask where they recommend. They direct us to their sister restaurant Oyamel Cocina Mexicana. We head there to find its full as well with a wait time of 45 mins. We decide to wait as everywhere looks packed. They take our number and say they will text us when our table is ready.
We go to an American BBQ bar & restaurant across the road for a drink and some smoky chicken wings. It's happy hour so I can afford to have a wine.
Oyamel Cocina Mexicana has a neat interior and a good vibe. We order guacamole to start, which they prepare fresh at the table. We order four other tapas dishes to share which are delicious excluding the beef taco which is bland and neither of us finish it. The waiter takes the tacos off our bill. Would recommend this restaurant and look forward to the Spanish version tomorrow.
On our way home we stop in at the outdoor pop-up bar on our block for a beer. It's such a great idea and has the cleanest and nicest smelling portaloos I've ever come across.
Return to our hallway and I make a fort of towels around my bottom bunk bed for privacy. A group of girls is loud and frantic downstairs yelling 911 & ambulance. Then we hear people running up the stairs, but turns out it's harmless and everyone calms down. But I still end up jumping onto the top bunk bed to share with Sam.
