Getting lost while exploring
Woke up at 3am wide awake after being in bed for almost 24hours. Relaxed in bed reading till it was light. Felt a hundred times better this morning than yesterday.
Decided we had to do as much today as possible having wasted a whole day yesterday. Wanted to try Tiffany's again and visit the Statue of Liberty. Stopped off for a breakfast omelette with some amazing avocado.
Sam experienced Tiffany's for the first time and I brought my first bracelet. Had only taken ten steps out of the store when a man walking past shared my enthusiasm "someone got herself a Tiffany box!".
Got tickets for the NY Water Taxi at 12.30pm, had half an hour to spare so raced to find the Charging Bull on Wall Street. Took 15 minutes to get there and it was too busy to get a photo at the front of the Bull so I got a photo squatting under its butt. Had to power walk back to the jetty to catch the 12.30pm boat......which surprise surprise was departing as we arrived. Had to change our tickets to the 1.45pm boat & fill in an hour.
The 1.45pm boat arrived and was packed so couldn't get a seat on top or a window seat downstairs. The guide was really knowledgeable and gave a detailed history of the bridges, buildings and landmarks that we passed. We went on top and stood to take pictures. Was an overcast day but still got some good pictures and saw the Statue of Liberty up close.
The guide gave everyone his advice on restaurants and recommended that we avoid McDs, KFC, Subway, Burger King etc as you can eat them anywhere. So of course, as soon as we hit dry land we were hungry and went searching for the closest McDs. No regrets!
It rained a bit in the afternoon and there is a chance of snow showers tomorrow. Headed to the Roseland Ballroom to watch Lorde perform to a sold-out audience. Sam felt very out of place amongst the mainly female under 21 demographic. Had to stand and listen to the conversations of 18-year-old American girls while waiting for the first act. Decided it was necessary to have a couple of Budweiser's.
The first act was some kind of boy band that the females went crazy for. The lead singer looked like Edward Cullen from Twilight. They weren't actually that bad but found after a few songs that every song started to sound the same. Can't tell you who this band was as if they mentioned it, we missed it.
Waited in anticipation for Lorde, she didn't disappoint and her performance was exactly what I was expecting. The music and her voice were amazing. She had a cold so throughout the show sipped on hot tea. People with their mobile phones, why do they feel that it's necessary to record the entire show? There was a sea of phones in the air from the second Lorde hit the stage. It's frustrating when you can only see the artist on the screens of phones. Take a couple of pictures sure, but the whole show?? Am I showing my age??
Moved from where we were standing in the middle of the venue to the back as thought we could probably see more and would fit in better amongst the teeny boppers chaperones. Shortly after moving a young girl ran from ahead of us towards the back of the venue and threw up all over a man two people over to our left. He had to remove his shirt and others quickly took his space, unknowingly standing in vomit. The tangy smell lingered for a while but eventually disappeared.
After the show, we hailed a taxi for another night at Vivid Strip club. No, I kid I was only returning to collect my jersey, coatand& scarf. The staff were really polite considering the state I can only imagine I was in when I left in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Yay didn't lose anything!
