Getting lost while exploring
Yesterday we relaxed a lot until we headed to the basketball. During the day, we had our first slice of American pizza which was $1 a slice and delicious! We stumbled upon a 5-level shopping mall where I shopped up a storm while Sam went to the DMV to inquire about registering a vehicle.
I immediately found a shop that just sold coats, why didn't I find it 24 hours earlier! Got a bargain full-length cost for $40. Also, brought a $10 jacket, a beanie, belt and a knitted headband. Quite happily filled in an hour.
Sam returned and we were gutted to discover that it seems that you have to be an American Citizen or Resident to register a vehicle. So, we are looking into alternative options. We went back to the hostel to search hire companies and I got grumpy because I was tired so Sam put me to bed for an hour nap.
Woke up pumped for the New York Knicks game as it was the event I've been most excited for, couldn't wait to buy a singlet & a cap. Had dinner at TGIFs and got a free plate of Buffalo wings because we were going to the game.
Rushed across to Madison Square Garden with only 5 minutes to spare before the game started. Got to the gates and when they scanned our tickets discovered that I had accidentally printed the same ticket twice. Thankfully I still had the tickets in my email so was able to get the second ticket scanned on Sam's phone. But the man scanned it twice so it came up as already used. I said that I think he had scanned it twice as I saw a green tick the first scan then a Red Cross. He wasn't sure so sent us to the box office. Meanwhile, the game started. Long story but we eventually got in when they looked up the ticket history & saw that it had been double scanned. We missed the first quarter and the first few minutes of the second quarter and I didn't have time to buy a singlet or cap.
The game was great the Knicks played the Philadelphia 76ers and won 126 to 110. They give a lot away at game shirts, money, cars and a house! Every 10 or so minutes they put the camera on a celebrity in the first row, most of them were American sports stars or from Saturday Night Live. I've gotta say though that the crowd watching a Wildcats game in Perth is louder, but maybe it'd be different if it was a playoff game.
After the game, we decided to head to a rooftop bar that Jeffrey the comedian had recommended. Walked for half an hour to get there and took the elevator up 20 levels. Got a seat inside which was super fancy before finding out you could go up one more level and be outside. The views from up top were amazing! The Empire State Building was right there and NYC lit up is stunning.
Ordered a couple of cocktails and put on the complementary red robes as it was freezing. We noticed a man that appeared to be by himself get shot down by a table of five ladies. We asked if he wanted to join us. His name was Tim a lawyer on business from Chicago and he brought us a couple of warm ciders served in massive tea cups. Best idea ever! Tim brought over more drinks and two more couples to join us. A couple (that weren't a couple) from Manchester Anna & Nick and a young couple from Melville Perth who had just arrived that day and were quite sloshed and left early.
Continued drinking until we were the last group standing and decided to kick on with our new buddies. Tim took care of the bill and arranged for his personal driver to pick us up in a Chevrolet. Tim stopped off at a bathroom along the way and Nick bailed.
Next stop was a visit to my first ever Strip Club. Tim brought a $350 bottle of vodka for the table which we pretty much drunk straight, Tim had $200 worth of bundles of $1 bills to give to the strippers. Anna was absolutely sloshed and almost threw up at the table. Shots of something cinnamon flowed and I got my first lap dance. I don't remember leaving, but we will have to return to get back my brand new coat which I forgot. Sam had to pay the taxi driver an extra $20 as I spewed in the taxi. All in all, it was a great night and hardly cost us thanks to Tim. We googled him and he is a hot shot lawyer at the top of his game. He kinda looked like John Mayer and must've spent close to a couple of grand.
Tuesdays blog entry is really easy. We slept all day till we were really hungry and at 3pm arranged for a pizza to be delivered. Sam smuggled it into the room with two 591ml cokes....why not 600ml? I had a hangover that reminded me of being 16 after drinking a whole bottle of vodka. I finally remembered that I had an anti-nausea prescription pill left from getting my wisdom teeth out. I had been saving it for half a year in anticipation of a terrible hangover, it did the trick. We ate part of our gigantic pizza and then slept the rest of the day and night.
