Getting lost while exploring
On our final day in Mexico we went snorkelling along the reefs in Cozumel by boat. This was absolutely awesome as a lot of the reefs were really shallow and we didn't have to dive far down, or at all, to see a variety of different fish. The guys running the boat were all good sorts and we got a couple of cans each of corona while on board. Most of the people on the boat were Americans and they pretty much all opted to wear life jackets cause they weren't strong swimmers. A couple of them were even dragged by the guide on an inflatable. Had lunch after the snorkelling finished and then got the ferry back over to Playa del Carmen. It was bucketing down when we got off, but was still warm. Walked to the ADO bus station and got tickets to Cancun. The bus was air conditioned which would normally be nice, but because we were soaking wet from the rain I was freezing. Arrived in Cancun and jumped in a taxi to the hotel. I didn't have high expectations for our accommodation as it was really cheap. It was pretty much what I expected, a tacky temple themed hotel that kept everything including the to remote behind the front desk. I even had to leave a deposit to borrow a hair dryer that was so **** and rusty. I ended up looking like Monica in that Friends episode where she got a Afro from the humidity on an island. Had a shower and enjoyed the view of the electrical wiring through the dropped ceiling tiles. Sam being an ex maintenance man fixed this before we left. The bathroom window was also stuck wide open and couldn't be shut. The air con worked really loudly and sparked if you unplugged it. We also got stuck with another tiny Mexican bed, I'm surprised I haven't mentioned these yet. Over 50% of our hotels have had tiny double beds that are really short and our feet hang off the end. We aren't tall people, but compared to some Mexicans I guess we are.
