Getting lost while exploring
Had a great sleep, got up bright and early for breakfast. Buffet breakfast at the hotel is included and the restaurant is on the top floor overlooking the Zocalo. It included eggs, pancakes, nachos & other stuff I had no idea what it was, but it didn't look like breakfast. Headed out for a walk around the city. First stop was Torre Latinamericana, which is a skyscraper with an observation deck. Mexico City is huge! Great views in all directions. No air con action inside though so didn't last long. Museo Del Palacio De Bellas Artes is a stunning building filled with Mexican morales & art. It was free to look around all levels. Next I wanted to find El Tio Pepe which is one of the city's oldest cantinas for a beer. We found it, but it was closed. Wandered around many markets throughout the city, watched street performers & found a bar for some beers & food. Came back to hotel for a bit as still adjusting to time difference & super tired after flights. Then went out to find Luche Libre tickets. Had dinner at another Mexican rooftop restaurant which was really busy and had to wait ages for a table. But the margaritas were worth the wait. Got a taxi from the hotel to the arena and watched the ridiculous Mexican wrestling. So funny to watch and experience. The Mexicans were so into it! To be the fair some of the their tricks were quite impressive and would've hurt. We had arranged for the same driver to pick us back up from the arena but he didn't speak English and there was some confusion with the pick up time. After an hour he did arrive, I had spoken to the traffic police by this stage about whether they could call him for us and he hadn't answered. But all good in the end. Grabbed another ice cream and ate it in bed watching tv we didn't understand. Got up and went over to our favourite giant window when we heard non stop police sirens. Police car after police car drove around the square with their sirens going, perhaps to make their presence known?
