It remained cold and windy through the start of the night, and it was a very cold night without power. However by the morning the sky was clear and blue, and the air was crisp and icy - but boding well for the rest of the day.
Went back to town to have a coffee - paid $10 for two small cappucinos. Last night we paid $8 for two beers at the golf club. Should have had beer for breakfast.
We drove on through the sunshine, and finally felt we were on holiday properly. Through some lovely woodlands and on to Narrabri where we wondered around town again. This is cotton planting country, and there were some gorgeous quilts and fabric art pieces hanging in the Info Centre, winners of a competition to show off the uses of the fabric. The other thing I noticed about Narrabri was despite glorious sunshine and wide pavements, there were no cafes with tables out for people to sit and enjoy it.
While there we got a phone call from our friends in Brisbane worried about us as apparently several highways had been closed in NSW with snow and black ice. Although our drive had been unpleasant, I guess it could have been worse.
Then we pushed on to Moree and got the full relaxation experience - soaking in pools of hot artesian waters, and letting all the stress float away. It was so lovely that we decided to stay a second night, so next day we relaxed, did some washing, and caught up with lots of other travelers. In the afternoon we walked (and scooted) into town and found it almost completely deserted. On the way we stopped at the tourist info centre and organised a tour for tomorrow to check out the local pecan farm industry.
In the caravan park they put us in a great spot right next to the pools, and even better in the flight path of the local airport. Many small bi-planes and other joy flights landing almost over our heads.
Georgy's bit
The golf club free camping area is great - fellow campers sat together and shared a yarn and a drink, bought at seventies price list, happy hours. After a day of shellacking rain while driving and a freezing unpowered night we headed out on the road works that had some short stretches of roads inserted between them to keep it interesting. We noticed the NSW rule of reverse angle parking is not universal, each town to its rule. Narrabri was a nose in first while Moree was arse in first. I was very pleased to know that Narrabri is water wise, with 1.8L per flush - that is a call for pride and joy. Moree is lovely so we will extend our stay in Moree caravan park for two reasons, one being the Sun and the other being the Thermal pools, amazing and HOT. Also as coffee goes with $5 a cup, 4 cups a day and the public aquatic centre charging $8 a head/day that will be $36 so free camping will cost the same without the power, shower and laundry. Happy days, I can feel retired now.
