We've had a very quiet couple of days here in Christchurch, killing time until our flight out of New Zealand at 6.35am on Monday morning. Yesterday we were going a little bit stir crazy but today has been nice. I woke Jim with the news they were showing reruns of the Liverpool vs. Fulham and Manchester City vs. Arsenal matches on the hostel TV; I have never seen him spring out of bed so fast and I even got a hug! He is going to be glued to Sky Sports from Saturday, I tell you now! After that we went and sunbathed in the Botanic Gardens and I ate my last slice of NZ carrot cake (truly out of this world) and falafel souvlaki. And now the hour is upon us to head to the airport...
We haven't booked a room for our final night because we figured we'd be checking in at the airport really early (4.35am), so the plan is to sleep on a chair somehow before our flight. And then there's a hideous full day of travel ahead of us before we reach Singapore. Three hours to Sydney, eight hours waiting at Sydney Airport before our seven hour flight to Singapore, arriving at 11pm local time.
Reeeally not looking forward to tomorrow (how do you entertain yourself at an airport for eight hours without spending money?!) but I'm excited about getting to Singapore, even if we're only there for three nights. It'll be ace to be surrounded by foreign languages again and to be that tiny bit out of our comfort zone. We've absolutely loved New Zealand (it truly is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen) but we've done and seen all we can now, money's low and we're ready to leave.
I think my highlights here have definitely been the glacier hike at Franz Josef, the view as we entered Mount Aspiring National Park, sea kayaking at Abel Tasman National Park and, of course, my skydive! Who'd have thunk it eh?!
I can't believe that I'll be home in just over four days! Absolutely crazy. Wish us luck with our hellish day of travel...
Loads of love x x x
